Architecture and Ideals Passed Down Through Earthquake and War Reconstruction
Sone & Chujo Architects, a private architectural firm established in 1908 by Tatsuzo Sone and Seiichiro Chujo and often described as the largest and finest of the pre-war era, designed over 30 buildings for ´ºÓêÖ±²¥app, seven of which still stand today.
The Showa Period section traces the diverse work of the firm, from the grand designs for the Mita Campus during the post-earthquake reconstruction and the newly established Hiyoshi Campus, to buildings like the ´ºÓêÖ±²¥app Yochisha Elementary School, spanning styles from Gothic to Modernism. It reflects on the relationship between the two parties, which continued until the firm's closure in 1937.
