A joint research group¡ªled by Selena Xue, a third-year student in the Doctoral Programs at the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo; Professor Hideyuki Okano, Director of the ´ºÓêÖ±²¥app Regenerative Medicine Research Center (KRM) (then a professor at the ´ºÓêÖ±²¥app School of Medicine's Department of Physiology); Project Associate Professor Satoru Morimoto, Deputy Director of KRM (then a full-time lecturer at the ´ºÓêÖ±²¥app School of Medicine's Department of Physiology); and Professor Yukihide Tomari of the Institute for Quantitative Biosciences, The University of Tokyo¡ªhas developed an efficient method for inducing lower motor neurons from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Furthermore, by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) image analysis and single-cell tracking technologies, the group has developed a method for easily and reproducibly evaluating disease phenotypes. The results of this research were published in the online edition of Stem Cell Reports , a Cell Press journal published by the International Society for Stem Cell Research, on December 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. (EST).
